Stress management and health consolidation is as big as it has ever been. The focus in both the public and private sectors emphasises the requirement for alternative methods of keeping staff happy and content. The importance of creating a workplace that is sustained by a workforce who takes ownership of the organisation’s future, becaure they feel nurtured and well-balanced between personal and professional life, is a real asset which must not be neglected and forgotten by big-business and money focus.
How does this involve Laughter Yoga and laughing in the workplace?
Laughter Yoga is not just a momentary health-craze, it is a real tool for both personal and professional growth in which individuals and teams experience increase in motivation and progress in all areas of life.
Laughter Yoga does not involve Yoga poses but simply improve the amount of air you breathe and help your body expell toxins and old stale air. This in turn assists your body in becoming healthier and more energetic – good vibes for any workplace!

Staff Laugh – where workplaces laugh!
Having worked in numerous corporate settings for more than 20 years as a member of the staff as well as running workshops and training courses within organisations for more than 10 years my understanding of the issues and challenges in the workplace among teams and individual staff members continue to expand, and undoubtedly there is a real need for bringing a light hearted approach to work into the workplaces.
This new and unique programme based on laughter for no reason is based on daily telephone laughter for the staff members and designed to
– boost staff morale
– lower absenteeism
– improve staff retention
– increase productivity
– encourage teamwork
– improve creativity and motivation
It is based on tools that work; laughter and telephone!

One On One Laughter Coaching – a true story
A couple of months ago two sisters started the 8-week One-On-One Laughter Coaching programme in order to remove some of their seiousness and add more laughter to their lives. Being only 19 and 23 years old they were at a stage in their lives where they (in my opinion) should be exited and see opportunities in almost all things. However, reality was different – and it is different for many young people in that age group.
Very quickly – either after finishing studies or beginning further education young people become serious and tied up in commitments that often exceed what they have ever imagined. Few realise this and even fewer take action and look for a way to change their overly serious approach to life. These two sisters did!
The 8-week One-On-One Laughter Coaching programme is designed to progress through different philosophies, techniques and activities over the course of the programme and because of the way it a coaching relationship works there is an intention to succeed based on the participants’ commitment to see change happening.
Each week new homework is laid out and new exercises are added, new ways of introducing light-hearted laughter and the four elements of joy; laughter, play, song and dance.
The programme works!
Although change takes time and is an ongoing promise to yourself, eight weeks are still enough time to start the ball rolling and that is exactly what happened to the two sisters. Their stress is still there for them but their approach to coping with it has changed and this is what makes stress seem less stressful.
- A small example of spilling a bottle of milk on the floor and reacting with a laughter outburst instead of swearing is only a story that shows a change in attitude towards challenges.
- The same goes for being stuck in traffic and knowing that no matter how angry and frustrated you get, the traffic won’t go any further – why not laugh or sing.
Altogether the improvement in coping ability and improved mood, boosted energy levels and willingness to have fun as well as development of emotional intelligence are key outcomes from the programme. Apart from being ideal for individuals it is also an exceptional programme for teams in organisations to go through.
